Ben Fajen

Ben Fajen has been a mega-fan and serious player of jazz since the age of 12! He created the Loosewig Quartet in Berkeley, CA in 2004 and played as much as possible with that group through 2007. During that time, the quartet recorded three CDs, two of which are full of original writing by various members of the band. In 2015, Ben moved to Portland and soon after discovered the incredible jazz scene in our beautiful city. Then in 2016, Ben hosted his first house concert - this one as a send off for David Valdez, a fantastic alto sax player who lived in the area many years. The concerts became regular - up to twice per month - and over the years, Ben has hosted close to 100 house concerts (96). In 2017, Ben collaborated with the superb trumpet player Greg Garrett to form a septet and play at the "Al's Den" venue as part of the PDX Jazz Festival! Most recently, Ben spent eight weeks in Lisbon, Portugal and ended the trip by recording a short CD, "Loosewig Trio Lisboa."

Alan Jones

“Alan Jones is one of the world’s great living jazz musicians, a completely natural, intuitive and profound musical explorer. I’ve know Alan for almost 30 years and he is my favorite drummer to play with, bar none. His depth of knowledge of, and appreciation for, the tradition of jazz is evident from the first beat, whether he’s playing his main instrument, drum set, or one of his other axes like bass, saxophone, jazz vocals or piano. As composer, arranger, virtuoso drummer and master teacher, Alan always expresses the joy of his life through music. He’s a very demanding teacher (I’m still working on my lessons with him!), but it’s worth the effort. The Alan Jones experience is not one to miss.”
