Charlie Doggett was born in Oregon and began playing drums at an early age. His first paying job as a musician was at the age 15. Up to this point Doggett was mostly self taught and he credits his uncle, (who played trumpet), with showing him how to hold the drumsticks. His first formal teachers were at the University of Oregon and included drummers Chris Lee, Alan Jones, and pianist Gary Versace. Upon graduating from the U of O, Doggett was employed by both the University of Oregon and Lane Community College teaching drum set and percussion. He later relocated to Portland, Oregon where he currently resides. Doggett has performed extensively throughout the Northwest, West Coast, Canada, and Europe. He is a member of Upper Left Trio, a group comprised of pianist Clay Giberson and bassist Jeff Leonard.
